Giving Back, Made Easy!

Giving Back, Made Easy!

In April, Step Up MCR teamed up with Informed Solutions and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) for a Giving Back Day along the Medlock Valley.

The Medlock Valley is a hidden oasis just outside of Manchester’s city centre, and it’s been amazing to see how The Friends of Medlock Valley have preserved it over the years. Lifelong Beswick residents Dave and Keeley, and a growing team of volunteers, have taken care of the Medlock Valley trail, turning it from a neglected area into Manchester’s best kept secret.

The team has built a sculpture trail, fairy glen, community allotment, which recently hosted a music and arts festival!

Together, we spent the day supporting the conservation project and maintaining the green space for local people to enjoy by:

  • Creating gravel paths and walkways
  • Tending to the community allotment
  • Cutting back trees and branches
  • Picking up litter
  • Building a new water feature sculpture

Step Up MCR is really proud to have supported this brilliant, community-led initiative since awarding their very first grant back in 2021. We can’t wait to see how this wonderful space is maintained for generations to come.

A huge thanks to the volunteer team for their hard work!

“The day was a lot of fun and it felt very rewarding to give back to such a genuine local project where the impact and value can be seen immediately. It brought our team together whilst also supporting a cause our company is passionate about.”
