Step Up for MCR this May

Join our #Steps4StepUp Challenge!

#Steps4StepUp is launching for National Walking Month!

We believe that every person in our neighbourhoods should feel as happy and healthy as possible, which is why all of the community projects we support promote the five ways to wellbeing.

Each project we support started out with a BIG DREAM and came to life through PEOPLE POWER!

Just some of the Step Up projects for Ancoats & Beswick and Clayton & Openshaw include:

  • Max Trax- a campaign to build a brand new cycle track for the whole community in Delamere Park, Openshaw. This project is a labour of love in memory of resident Kerrie's little boy, Max, who loved to ride his bike in the park!
  • The Beacon Centre- the community has come together to takeover the disused Barrington Community Centre in Clayton, creating The Beacon Centre- a community health and wellbeing hub for all!
  • Keep Youth Work Alive- a youth coaching and mentoring project inspiring young people in Beswick. John is passionate about giving young people opportunities to get active, learn new skills, and develop ambitions for themselves.

We're calling on YOU to STEP UP, STEP OUT, and STEP INTO ACTION!

Walking is good for our minds, our bodies and our neighbourhoods and has been a lifeline during the past year, helping people stay active and connected.

As well as the personal benefits we’ve experienced, lockdown has highlighted the improvements that can be made to congestion and air quality when we drive less.

By walking the roadmap out of the pandemic, rather than driving it, we can emerge healthier and happier.

Walk Your Way!

Set your own personal targets and goals! You can do it solo or get together with friends, family, or colleagues to make it a team challenge.

Some ideas include:

  • Going car-free for a month by walking the school run or to work
  • Organising a walk of your local area with family, friends or neighbours
  • Exploring the great outdoors by arranging a countryside ramble
  • Committing 10,000 steps each day

Looking for more of a challenge? Maybe you could:

  • Walk 50 miles in a weekend
  • Walk 1 million steps in May
  • Take on the Three Peaks or another difficult hike
